Techies--New Orleans needs you.

If you are a tech in networking/wireless communications by trade, New Orleans desperately needs your help to set up a comm. grid to coordinate law enforcement officials, missing persons, and aid workers.

More info here

Please pass it on to anyone you can think of that can help.

Re: Missing Person

I'm am *so* sorry, but I really can't be of much help to you beyond telling you that FEMA and the FCC are working on creating a communications net that will digitize and centralize the names of all those in shelters, but it's going to take time.

The thing that I posted here was from a tech friend of mine who received it as a call out to anyone with experience in networking to come out and build the network. Personally, I don't have that kind of background, but I do have a net connection and agreed to SPAM the hell out of this plea.

I'd recommend signing up at the lists at NOLA.com and MSNBC.

Re: Missing Person

You should post your request on any and all "roll call" sites you can find, like katrinafinder.us and cnn.com.

Re: Missing Person

The Red Cross has set up a registry you can access and contribute to by Web or telephone. Visit redcross.org or call 1-877-LOVED-1S.

Re: Missing Person

Check out the Red Cross website, they have a list where you can leave a message that you are looking for someone as well as check the names of people who have given their names to the Red Cross to let friends and relatives know they are ok.
